Introduction.
For the 2024 Nigerians Grammy Nominees, Nigerian Afrobeats stars have dominated the list of nominees in all Africa categories, with Burna Boy leading the pack with four nominations. And other nominees are Davido, Asake & Olamide, Ayra Starr and South African Tyla.
Davido
Singer Davido earned three nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards making him one of the 2024 Nigerians Grammy Nominees
He posted on X, formerly Twitter, about his long patience to get back to the list: “3 nominations at the Grammys! Delay is not denial!”
Davido has been nominated for the Best African Performance category for his hit single ‘Unavailable’ featuring Musa Keys.
He also earned a nomination for the Best Global Music Performance category for his single ‘Feel’, while his album Timeless earned him a third nomination in the Best Global Album category.
Burna Boy
Burna Boy, however, has the highest nominations, capping four mentions in the Best African Music Performance category, Best Global Music Performance category, Best Global Album category and the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.
First Nigerian among 2024 Nigerians Grammy Nominees
Firstly, Burna Boy became the first Nigerian artist to earn four nominations in one year, in addition is another artist close to this record “Seal” who got 3 nominations in 1995 and 1996 consecutively. Burna also bagged the record of the first African lead artist to be nominated in Best Melodic Rap Performance category.
He also becomes the first African artist to earn five consecutive Grammy nominations, which stretch from 2019 to 2023. But this is arguable because Seal from 1992 – 1996 got 8 nominations and a total of 15 nominations with 4 wins
Nominees for Best African Music Performance At The 2024 Grammy
This is arguable the most contested Award category in the 2024 Grammy especially for the African community with the genre of music mostly being Afrobeat and Amapiano. Further taking into consideration that it is one of the newly added categories among 3 new categories whoever wins this category will be making history and also all the nominees.
